Derby Women’s Volleyball 1st team 3-0 Anglia Ruskin Women’s Volleyball 1st team: Home side ease to comfortable victory
Words by Alex Dreischmeier.
Derby Women’s Volleyball 1st team returned to winning ways as they comfortably beat Anglia Ruskin Women’s 1st team 3-0 in the University Sports hall at Kedleston Road.
The hosts were under a little bit of pressure coming into the match having lost their previous match against Newcastle. Their opponents were in fine form on the back of two consecutive wins.
It was clear that Derby were a little nervous as the visitors from Cambridge made a blistering start, scoring four points in two minutes.
However, the slow start did not affect the home team as they gradually grew into the contest and turned the scoreline around to lead when the first timeout occurred. From then Anglia Ruskin struggled to regain control, making several errors including two foul serves. All of this meant that Derby went on to win the first set and go one nil up.
They built on their momentum as they made a flying start in the second set putting some distance between themselves and the visitors. The second set was tightly contested with neither side able to assert any form of dominance but it was Derby who doubled their advantage.
The start of the third set was a carbon copy of the second and by the time the first timeout had been called, the match was all-but over. From then on it was clear the home side would win, with Anglia Ruskin not offering much resistance.
Derby’s next match is against East Anglia Women’s Volleyball 1st team where they will be hoping to build on Wednesday’s victory.
