Derby Men’s 4th XI were left frustrated as a second-half winner meant Bedfordshire Men’s 2nd XI came away from Kedleston Road with a 1-0 win.
The visitors eventually got the winner through an own goal when their 75th-minute free-kick deflected past Oli Staines. The home side’s goalkeeper had an impressive match but was ultimately unlucky not to keep a clean sheet.
Derby’s only real chance of an equaliser came in the 89th minute. Ross Barnett struck a powerful half-volley from outside the box however the Bedfordshire ‘keeper matched the effort and held on to ensure the victory for his side.
The match could been a very different one as Barnett was seemingly taken out on the edge of the penalty area on the stroke of half time. The free-kick would have been in a dangerous position where the hosts could have taken advantage although, the referee waved play on and the game remained goalless at the break.
