Derby Women’s Futsal 2nd XI 0-16 Loughborough Women’s Futsal 2nd XI: Visitors far too strong in whitewash victory
Words by Samuel Collins.
Derby suffered a heavy defeat against a dominant Loughborough side in a disappointing contest at Kedleston Road which ended 16-0 to the visitors.
It was a frustrating evening for the Derby futsal side, with there being a clear difference in quality between the two sides.
Loughborough took an early lead in the opening minutes as their first chance led to the opener. The hosts had the chance to equalise but Katie Mitchell’s shot was saved.

It didn’t take long for Loughborough to grab their second and third as Derby attempted to remain resilient at the back. The home side somehow still looked a threat up front but they repeatedly failed to break down a strong visiting backline.
Even though Derby desperately searched for a way back into the match, they were undone yet again as Loughborough managed to make it 5-0 before the break following another effective counter-attack.
The second half was much of the same as a confident away side bagged three goals in the space of just two minutes to give themselves an extremely comfortable lead with 18 minutes left to play.
Just moments later, it was 9-0 and it got even worse. The goals continued to flow and with 10 minutes of the contest still to play, the scoreline had reached double figures, something even the greatest pessimist could not have prepared for.
Despite regularly having to pluck the ball out of their own net, Derby were unfortunate to not have a goal of their own as the Loughborough goalkeeper pulled off two fine saves late on.
The visitors continued their siege on their opponents’ goal and number 12 and 13 added to their already impressive advantage. The final three goals came in the dying moments to round off a historic afternoon for Loughborough and one to forget for Derby who must bounce back in their next fixture.
