Captain Marvel – the best solo female superhero movie marvel has ever released.
So, I’ve told you before how I feel about super her films, *cough* they suck *cough*. Excuse me, I had a tickle in my throat or on my keyboard, maybe it’s a virus.
However, I’ve found myself watching another Marvel film, obviously not through my own choice, but it was the only thing on worth seeing, and why was it worth me seeing it? Well, because it’ll help me make a lot more sense out of the next Avengers film. But why will I go and see that if I don’t like superhero films? Because it’s going to be a huge blockbuster, I do film reviews and I hate missing out!
Moving on… I had no idea what to expect. I hadn’t seen a trailer for this film somehow, I just knew it was about a chick that I think saves the world or something in the upcoming Avengers:Endgame. And I can see how she will, because she’s a bad ass… or at least she kinda gets there. As long as she keeps in check with her emotions being as she’s female and that kept being her downfall. This movie was ridiculously feminist.. but, girl power and all that. Though being a girl, I’d obviously want her superpowers if I was a superhero as she’s clearly the best. Or she’s just supergirl that can glow? But obviously that’s the world of DC – However, her superhero costume screamed super girl, and then the lights turned on at home and I think it’s supposed to refer to captain America… I wonder if they get together. Oh, please don’t let these films get romantic, that’s why the Avengers are in this mess in the first place, if star lord hadn’t got so defensive. All would have been fine! I realise at this point I’m sounding like someone who is secretly a fan of marvel.
Getting back to the movie, Brie Larson(community, room), the actress of Captain Marvel didn’t really win me over at first, until she punched an old lady in the face – which I am not condoning! But it was funny, the film had a couple of funny moments. Yet, I didn’t think she was feisty enough, but the longer the movie went on, she grew more likeable. Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury, albeit aged younger. He’s so funny, and actually has a beautiful singing voice. I was surprised to see Jude Law! Should I have been surprised? I find him the most unlikeable bore of an actor, yet I can’t help but like him as he has some sort of persuasive charm that wins me over every time, nonetheless his contact lenses looked ridiculous though.
It is a good movie and I liked it more than I expected, total chick flick though, with such a girly atmospheric tone that made me eye roll once or twice… just show me the explosions and some darkness! The soundtrack is awesome though. And there’s a cat in the film that is just brilliant. Trust me. Not as cute as my cat as no cat ever will be. But marvel cat is a great addition to the narrative.
So, if you like good tunes, feminist empowerment and Supergirl or maybe Wonder Woman but as a marvel movie, Give it a go! Or if you still kind of have no clue about Avengers Endgame – which we don’t. I’m predicting that this movie will say enough to keep your marvel and feminist side sorted until she joins the lads in Endgame.
