Team Derby Coast To Victory
A debut hat-trick from Ross Barnett helped Team Derby Men’s Football 5ths overcome Bishops Grosseteste 4-1 at Kedleston Road.
Derby lead 1-0 in the eighth minute mark after Barnett was set free by Ollie King; The forward was able to slide the ball under the opposition keeper.
King was creator moments later as he played in Ieuan Ivett down the left hand side, who smartly chipped over the ‘keeper.
Derby added another four minutes later as King grabbed a first half hat-trick of assists. The midfielder’s inch-perfect ball found Barnett and once again the striker was able to convert into the corner and give Derby a convincing lead heading into the half-time break.
The visitors started the second half with real intent and only took two minutes to pull one back after Jordan White’s free kick found its way past Ryan Plant.
Things could have got worse ten minutes later for Derby if it was not for Alex Drury’s goal-line clearance from a follow-up shot after a smart save from Plant.
Barnett finished the game the way he started with a goal. Derby’s three-goal cushion was restored after he rounded the ‘keeper to grab his hat-trick from close range.
This was Derby 5ths’ first BUCS league win of the season and with things looking up, they face another big test against De Montfort University next Wednesday.
