Joel Byrom scored an injury-time equalising penalty for Team Derby Mens Football 2nds as they drew 2-2 against the University of Worcester Mens 2nds.
Byrom secured the home side’s first point of the season as his 93rd minute spot-kick was smashed home emphatically. Scenes of jubilation followed thereafter from the terrace and touchline alike.
Derby twice overcame a single goal deficit, as Worcester broke the deadlock with a close range header from Tom Barr on 53 minutes.
The visitors’ second came courtesy of Trae Adeyemi’s top corner finish in the 75th minute – Derby’s Matt Balmbra had equalised with a header on 55 minutes.
Skipper Roderik Valko squandered two close range chances to win the game towards the end, but his Byrom somewhat spared his blushes.
Neither Derby nor Worcester could steal all three points on Wednesday afternoon, but as they lie 6th and 5th respectively, they will have both been left slightly deflated.
Derby will be hoping to go one better in their next fixture, when they face 4th placed Aston to hopefully lift them from the foot of the table.
