Team Derby Hammer The University Of Warwick
Team Derby Women’s Football 1sts won three points after a thrilling tie away to University of Warwick 2nds.
The game was ended as a contest in the opening half hour, as Derby raced to a 7-2 half-time lead. The score eventually ended 9-3 in Derby’s favour.
Millie Elson bagged a first half hattrick in another classy centre midfield performance, and Kate Wright added two well-taken strikes to her three from Derby’s last match against Nottingham Trent 3rds.
Warwick scored twice in the first half thanks to their pacy forward making the most of some hopeful long balls, but Derby were undeniably in control of the match throughout.
Defenders Hannah Roberts and Hatty Heaney both added headed goals from Wright’s in-swinging corners to bring the total to seven for the first half.
After half-time Warwick pulled another back through an unfortunate Derby own goal but captain Hannah Barber and substitue Poppy Bradley’s cool finishes helped lift Derby to top of the table.
Derby have recorded three wins from three so far this season, scoring an impressive 17 goals in the process. Next up is a challenging cup tie against Lincoln 1sts.
