First Win Of The Season For Team Derby
Team Derby Women’s Netball 1sts ensured their first win of the season in emphatic fashion against a tired looking Harper Adam’s University side.
Derby set the tempo early and looked threatening from the first whistle. Quick and accurate passes made for some great play. However, early on, Derby failed to make their overruling pressure tell as they ended the first quarter with only a one-point lead.
Derby started the second as they had finished the first with quick passing and were able to capitalise on their chances and pull further away. Holly Dyer was at the forefront of the Derby attack and created space for herself excellently and finished just as well too.
At the halfway mark Derby had progressed into a 20-15 lead. The arrival of substitute Katie Whitehead was recognizable; her energy began to prove all too much for the Harper Adam’s defence.
This reflected in the scoreline as Derby began to dominate the second half of the game. The Derby defence conceded just nine points from the last two quarters – it was an incredible defensive display.
Katie Hasse intercepted well throughout the game and was pivotal to the Derby team defensively.
The game finished 36-24 in favour of the home side. Derby will now look to build upon that win with a result against Coventry who, as it stands, top the league table.
