21 Going On 82
It isn’t a secret that there are the students out there that don’t go out. The odd few enjoy staying in and binging Netflix more often than not, they tend to enjoy being in bed by 9 o’clock too. I’m not ashamed to say I’ve aged quicker than my peers, the fact I like to come home to a cup of tea and watch Location, Location, Location, should be fine, and it is.
The life of being an internally older student might hinder the social life, it might mean I only go out for a pint or two every now and then, and it might mean that I start sentences with ‘back in my day’ or ‘when I was your age’; when really there’s only a few years difference between myself and my friends. We all have that friend, and if you don’t then, sorry, but you’re it.
If you find your enjoyment by playing battleships, doing a word search or just reading a book, that’s more than okay. Watching an old film with your fellow old lady best friend can sometimes be the best way to spend an evening rather than getting blinding drunk and not being able to remember any of it the next day. I don’t like writing off the entire weekend because of a hangover, that’s not fun anymore. I want to be able to get up refreshed on a Sunday and do my weekly shopping before they close at 4.
So don’t worry if you’re old before your time, there is many of us, I promise. You shouldn’t feel forced to join in with all the drinking games that make you want to puke. Especially, if you’re a first year, and haven’t found your footing yet, then join Phantom, because a lot of us are old before our time as well.
