Top 10 Spooky Books for Halloween!
It’s finally October which means it’s basically Halloween right? I think we all know that Halloween is a full month event rather than one day, so I’m here to help you book lovers with your reading lists for this month! I think it’s only natural to read some scary books this month, so here are my recommendations of 10 very creepy and scary books to get you in the Halloween mood!
The Creeper Man by Dawn Kurtagich
This horror filled Young Adult book has been at the top of my Halloween Book list since the first time I read it a couple years ago. It combines childhood innocence, with the purest form of horror – the place you feel the safest actually being the one place that is out to get you.
Pet Sematary by Stephen King
We all know that King is the master of the horror genre, and this is one of the creepiest books he’s written for definite. Following a story full of creepy foreshadowing, and a cemetery that no one would want to be even remotely near, this is one of the classic King novels of all time.
Red Dragon by Thomas Harris
The story of Hannibal Lecter begins in this book, and what a story it is. Giving a breath of fresh air to all the supernatural horror out there today, this is a classic that will forever be remembered as the book that scared even the toughest of people. The villain this time is human, and very much real – Hannibal is rising.
Asylum by Madeliene Roux
As we all know Asylums are one of the best settings for any horror purely because of the awful stories you’re told at night. This book is exactly that. A perfect thriller with diary entries, images, and a story that will make you never want to visit an abandoned asylum in your life. Not that I hope you would anyway because that’s exactly how horror films are created.
NOS4R2 by Joe Hill
A lot of horror books recently have a tendency to overuse the gore and violent aspect to help increase the horror. This book definitely doesn’t need that and it was such a breath of fresh air to have a truly scary and creepy book in the traditional way it used to be.
Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt
No creepy book list would be complete without a good old fashioned story about a cursed town. This book has elements of historical fiction, murder mystery, and most importantly, a horror story to keep you awake on the darkest of nights. Is the woman whose eyes and mouth are sewn shut standing over your bed at night? Better watch out for her as she’s on the hunt in this book.
Little Monsters by Kara Thomas
This book is an emotional roller coaster from the first page to the last. Filled with brilliant world building, character development to leave you in awe, and a perfectly balanced mixture of paranormal horror and a potential murder mystery, this book is definitely one to watch out for.
13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough
This YA thriller is a heart-pounding book that will leave you questioning every character and every turn. You won’t be able to put it down from the moment you pick it up. With twists and turns that will leave you with an un-ending amount of questions, this is the perfect book for the spookiest month of the year
Say Her Name by Juno Dawson
Say Her Name tells the story of Bobbie and Naya, who decide to carry out the Bloody Mary ritual, and summon her spirit. They’re given five days to work out how to stop the curse, or else Mary is coming for them. And she won’t give up until the girls who summoned her disappear. It leaves your imagination to continue the rest of the story and will be on your mind for the rest of the night.
IT by Stephen King
