Sophie's Journey: Get Involved!
A group of University students supporting the Lincolnshire based charity, Sophie's Journey are looking forward to staging more events from September, having built new alliances over the summer. You may remember Phantom ran a feature on this previously.
On the 27th July Students Union Bar 67 Bridge Street played host to their opening event with live Music from Gareth Icke, Katie Cooper, Mo Ralph, Melanie Page, Simon Waldram and Emzae. Which was featured in IN Magazine
Sophie's Journey is a registered charity, originally initiated by 12 year old Lincolnshire schoolgirl, Sophie Robinson. Sophie battled against Medulloblastoma, whilst selflessly raising thousands for Childhood Cancer causes. Sophie was a talented dancer, but her illness left her incapable of being able to care for herself. Sophie passed away in January of last year, which was announced on BBC's Look North
Keen to build on Sophie's amazing work, her family and friends began raising funds to place two static vans at Golden Sands, Mablethorpe, for young people aged up to 18 years of age and living with the effects of cancer to use for free holidays with their families. Inside 12 months enough money was raised for Sophie's Journey to buy their first caravan and many families have enjoyed a weeks respite, since its public opening in March 2017.
Sophie's Journey's latest cause is to acquire a fully adapted second caravan, which accommodates the needs of children and teenagers with the type of physical effects Sophie experienced.
Local businesses have been donating towards the charities latest ongoing raffle, with prizes including;

Sophie's Journey are currently looking for supporters to help out with fundraising events this year. The team has bases in Sophie's hometown in Lincoln, at Nottingham Moderns Rugby Club and continues to enjoy support from 67 Bridge Street.
On the fundraising groups latest plans Derby University Nursing Student Imran Khan said;
“We've had a good summer in terms of building more support from musicians such as; Siobhan Mazzei, Jess Urwin, Les Hayden, Emily Carr, Bonbinome, Autumn Dawn Leader, Anna My Charlotte and we hope to be back at Bridge Street soon. We've also had talks with the Flowerpot Music Venue as well as looking to stage a fundraising event at our venue on the Trent Embankment, Nottingham to coincide with the Riverside Festival. We're excited to be furthering our opportunities and horizons and look forward to welcoming more people to the team. We'd love to take part in Trekfest and had a lot of support from Notts County as well as holding talks about a Charity Football match involving the clubs former players.”
