Introducing The Law Society

As an academic society, the Law society’s main aim is to bring together students who are studying law, those wishing to pursue a legal career and those who just have an interest in the subject.
Our events are mostly networking or skills based to improve our members’ knowledge and employability. As students ourselves we realise that the importance of social events cannot be overstated. That’s why we pride ourselves on regularly organising high quality events for our members from the Welcome Back Party in September to the Law Ball at the end of the year. We are also in the process of organising mooting training days, wine tasting sessions, pub quizzes and the Christmas party. The dates for all of these events are currently unconfirmed. We will be posting updates on our Facebook page at University of Derby Law Society 2015-16. Alternatively, you can follow us on Twitter @DerbyLawSoc.
We will be holding an event for first year students on 6th October at the Revolution bar in Derby. The purpose of this event is to give first year students a chance to meet the new committee and for the committee to answer any questions that students may have about the society and university life in general, in a relaxed setting. We hope that this event will encourage a few students to become sub-committee members and assist the current committee.
We also hope to collaborate with other societies throughout the year to give our members the chance to experience new things that they may not consider otherwise. One example of this would be our collaboration with Dumbledore’s Army to organise a Harry Potter inspired moot.
We plan to work with local solicitors and barristers to offer work experience and advice to our members. This would be hugely beneficial to them when they come to apply for jobs after university.
Be sure to like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter for updates on all of our events this year. You can email the committee with any questions that you have at law.soc@udsu.org.uk. We hope to see you at the Freshers’ Fair at Kedleston Road on 21st September!
This is a great list! So nice to have these all in one place.
